QR codes

Live, free

Print the link. Count the scans.

Every zou.sh link has a print-ready SVG QR code at its own address. Short links make simple codes, and each scan counts as a click.

A free SVG for every link, no sign-up needed.

How it works

How to get a QR code for a link

  1. 1

    Shorten the link

Paste the destination on blinkhop.com or send it to the API. Choose a readable ending, like zou.sh/menu, if people may type it too.

  2. 2

    Open its QR code

Click the QR button next to your new link, or add /qr to any zou.sh link: https://zou.sh/menu/qr returns the SVG file.

  3. 3

    Proof it, then print

Print one copy at the final size and scan it with a couple of phones. When it reads every time, send the file to the printer.

Why it helps

Why QR codes work better with short links

  • Print-ready SVG

A vector file stays sharp at any size, from a business card to a banner. No upscaling, no blurry edges.

  • Error correction level M

About 15% of the data can be restored, so a code with a small scratch or smudge can still be read.

  • Fewer modules, bigger squares

A short URL holds fewer characters, so the code needs a smaller grid. At the same print size, each square is larger and easier for a camera to read.

  • Every scan is a click

A scan that opens the link counts as a click on it. The total shows on the link’s + preview page, with bots and app previews left out.

  • A stable address per code

The code for zou.sh/menu lives at zou.sh/menu/qr. When you create a link through the API, the response includes that address as qr_url.

  • Early access

    New destination, same code

With an account (early access), point a link to a new page and the printed code follows, because it holds the short link, not the destination.

Built in

A QR code at every short link’s address

Add /qr to any zou.sh link to get its QR code as an SVG file. There is nothing to sign up for and nothing to configure.

  • Format: SVG, for print and design tools
  • Error correction: level M
  • Address: the short link followed by /qr
  • Also behind the QR button after you shorten on blinkhop.com

terminal

curl -o menu-qr.svg https://zou.sh/menu/qr

FAQ

Questions, answered.

Do zou.sh QR codes expire?

No. The QR code holds the short link, and zou.sh links never expire unless their owner sets an expiry date, an account feature in early access.

Can I see how many people scanned my QR code?

Yes. A scan that opens the link counts as a click, and the total appears on the link’s preview page, for example https://zou.sh/menu+. Bots and app link previews are not counted.

Can I download the QR code as a PNG?

The /qr address returns SVG. For a PNG, use the free QR code generator, or convert the SVG at the final size you need.

Can I change where a printed QR code points?

Not yet. Editing a link’s destination comes with accounts, in early access. Because the code holds the short link, a printed code then follows the new destination without reprinting.

What size should a printed QR code be?

It depends on the scanning distance. A common rule of thumb is a width of about a tenth of the distance, so roughly 3 cm (1.2 in) for a flyer read at 30 cm. The QR code guide has a size table.

Which error correction level do the QR codes use?

Level M, which can restore about 15% of the data. It suits most printed links and keeps the code compact.
