Google Analytics 4 shows source and medium together as Session source / medium, and the campaign as Session campaign.

  • Use lowercase. Analytics treats Email and email as two different mediums.
  • Keep one naming scheme, so a campaign isn’t split across spellings.
  • Don’t tag links inside your own site: it overwrites where the visit really came from.

FAQ

UTM questions.

What is a UTM builder?

A UTM builder adds tracking tags (UTM parameters) to a URL, so tools like Google Analytics can tell which source, channel and campaign sent each visit. This one also shortens the tagged link for you.

Which UTM parameters are required?

Always fill in source, medium and campaign. Term and content are optional: use term for paid search keywords and content to tell apart several links in the same message.

Does shortening a link remove its UTM tags?

No. A zou.sh link redirects to the full tagged URL, so every tag reaches your analytics. People just see a clean short link.

Should UTM values be lowercase?

Yes. Many analytics tools treat Newsletter and newsletter as two different sources. The builder lowercases values and replaces spaces for you unless you turn that off.

Is my data sent anywhere?

The tags are built in your browser. Nothing is sent until you click Shorten, which sends only the final URL to create the zou.sh link.
